The fall off-season runs from the end of summer operations to ski opening. For 2026-27, Vail Resorts targets November 6 at Breckenridge, November 13 at Vail and November 25 at Beaver Creek, and Copper Mountain lists November 6. The upper Mount Blue Sky road closes for the season.

What is the off-season in a Colorado ski town?
- The gap between ski and summer. Lifts stop between ski closing and summer opening, and again between summer and ski opening.
- Opening dates move. Vail Resorts calls its 2026-27 opening dates targets, subject to change.
- Foothill towns stay steady. Evergreen and Conifer run on Denver's calendar, not a lift schedule.
When do Colorado ski areas open for 2026-27?
- Keystone. Vail Resorts targets an opening as soon as possible in October.
- Breckenridge and Copper. Breckenridge targets November 6. Copper Mountain lists November 6 as opening day.
- Vail. Target: November 13.
- Beaver Creek. Target: November 25.
- Arapahoe Basin. A-Basin says it opens for winter as soon as possible, with no date set.

Which mountain roads close in winter?
- Mount Blue Sky. The Forest Service closes the upper road for the season and keeps it open to Summit Lake.
- Trail Ridge Road. Rocky Mountain National Park's road tops out at 12,183 feet. The park posts open and closed status on its road page.
- Independence Pass. CO-82 over the pass is open for the fall season. The Independence Pass Foundation posts closures on its site.
Do the buses run in the off-season?
- Summit Stage is free. Summit County's bus is free within the county.
- Two schedules. The Summit Stage runs a summer schedule and a winter schedule.
- Commuter routes. Two Summit Stage commuter routes connect to Park and Lake counties.
